Carbon footprint reductions must start with measuring where you stand today. You need to understand your current emission profile. To do so, tracecarbon combines emission calculators with expert teams as “humans in the loop” and various, high-quality sources:

Emissions calculators:
Our calculators serve the identification of your “carbon hot spots”, based on an initial screening of your value chain. The identification of your “carbon hot spots” is done in a mostly automated fashion, and then reviewed in deep-dives by our expert teams. It is prepared by the setup of your organization in our system, the definition of the scope of your carbon inventory, and the collection of the most important data across our organization.
Our free tracerr-calculator allows small businesses to measure their corporate carbon footprint and to understand the “main carbon drivers” – free of charge. We have built a free calculator which is built on GHG-P, the widely-used international protocol for carbon accounting. As a fully automated, high-level calculation tool, it is perfectly suited to identify many of our clients “main carbon drivers”.

Expert teams:
However, especially in our customers value chains, our free calculator cannot yet cover edge cases in every industry. We therefore provide additional support to SME who want to drill deeper and get an even clearer view on all aspects of their carbon footprint. This calculation is also based on the GHG-P, the widely-used international protocol for carbon accounting. Our calculation engine uses science-based emissions data and a combination of spend-based and activity-based methods to calculate a company’s greenhouse gas emissions. It involves less assumptions in our clients value chain, by leveraging our “expert in the loop” operating model. Even SME can have substantial and complex value chains, and accounting for their emissions along the value chain can be difficult. But because 90% of emissions can be found in the value chain, it’s essential to get accurate measurements.

Databases:
Each carbon footprint calculation is based on input data from high-quality sources. The data available on our platform is stemming mainly from these origins:
- Carbon emissions data from all major data providers
- Our platform learns as users feed production system data, e.g. regarding plausibility of data entries
- Other, including scientific literature and own research
