Objectives

We are convinced that climate change is the biggest challenge of our time. For greenhouse gas reduction, it is literally “now or never”. Scientists agree that only holding global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels can limit the most dangerous and irreversible effects of climate change. This is an extremely ambitious target. Nonetheless, there are many companies committed to mitigating their contribution to global warming. Our objective is to help small and medium companies (“SME”) to understand their emissions, define targets, reduce their emissions to the minimum, and - wherever that becomes necessary to reach their goals (like reaching “net zero”) - offset their remaining emission with high-quality offset certificates.

    Our services

Our goal is to help SMEs to measure and reduce their carbon footprint. Carbon footprint reduction must start with measuring where you stand. You need to understand your current emission profile. To do so, tracecarbon combines emission calculators with expert teams as “humans in the loop” and various, high-quality databases:

    Services image

    01

    Emissions calculators:

Our calculators serve the identification of your “carbon hot spots”, based on an initial screening of your value chain. The identification of your “carbon hot spots” is done in a mostly automated fashion, and then reviewed in deep-dives by our expert teams. It is prepared by the setup of your organization in our system, the definition of the scope of your carbon inventory, and the collection of the most important data across your organization

    02

    Expert teams:

Review of “carbon hot spots” in deep-dives and comprehensive carbon calculation for all “carbon hot spots”. Our emissions accounting follows the Greenhouse Gas Protocol methodology, covering the entire footprint in Scopes 1,2,3, as well as benchmarking with peer groups

    03

    Databases:

Each carbon footprint calculation is based on input data from high-quality sources. The data available on our platform is stemming mainly from these origins:

    • Carbon emissions data from all major data providers
    • Our platform learns as users feed production system data, e.g. regarding plausibility of data entries
    • Other, including scientific literature and own research

Calculating and reducing the carbon footprint is challenging - especially for small and medium enterprises (SME). Not only do most small and medium businesses (SMEs) lack the tools that big corporations have; they also do not have the overhead and project management resources to manage and measure their emissions in a timely manner. The first step toward reducing business carbon emissions is - for SME just like for blue chips - to understand their carbon footprint, especially the “main carbon drivers” – which is in many cases easier said than done.

    Our methodology

    Metodology image

The tracerr© carbon calculator has been developed to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) committed to fighting climate change. Our goal is to provide a calculation tool which is easy to use and based on generally accepted standards.

With our calculator, you will be able to calculate GHG emissions linked to your company operations. This measurement is indicated as tonnes of equivalent carbon dioxide emitted in 1 year period

We prioritize those calculation methods that guarantee a more precise and confident value. The tracerr© carbon calculator follows the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG-P), the widely-used international protocol for carbon accounting, and uses science-based emissions data and a combination of spend- and activity-based methods to determine carbon emissions. The emission factors used are extracted from recognised and public sources such as GHG Protocol, IPCC, DEFRA and Probas, among others.

The tracerr© carbon calculator was thought to consider all the Scope 1 and Scope 2 categories, and the most relevant ones from Scope 3. Therefore, the result you will get is quite good, although, of course, the certainty will depend on the quality of the data you provide. At the end of the calculation, you will obtain a level of confidence value which will give you an idea of how much you need to improve your input data to get a better estimation.

Conceptually, our approach is rather straightforward. We identify all GHG-relevant business processes and determine the volume of activities for each of them following a number of logical steps which are useful to not lose data during the carbon accounting process and to get a high-quality and accurate result.

Check the below doc to get more information about how calculations are done and what type of conversion factors we use to give you a quite fair result for the first screening your company is looking for.
