The tracerr© carbon calculator follows the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG-P), the widely-used international protocol for carbon accounting, and uses science-based emissions data and a combination of spend- and activity-based methods to determine carbon emissions. The emission factors used are extracted from recognised and public sources such as GHG Protocol, IPCC, DEFRA and Probas, among others.
The tracerr© carbon calculator was thought to consider all the Scope 1 and Scope 2 categories, and the most relevant ones from Scope 3. Therefore, the result you will get is quite good, although, of course, the certainty will depend on the quality of the data you provide. At the end of the calculation, you will obtain a level of confidence value which will give you an idea of how much you need to improve your input data to get a better estimation.
Conceptually, our approach is rather straightforward. We identify all GHG-relevant business processes and determine the volume of activities for each of them following a number of logical steps which are useful to not lose data during the carbon accounting process and to get a high-quality and accurate result.
